Sculpted by Terrance Plowright, this 2007 statue in Lilianfels Park Katoomba commemorates convict labourers working on the construction of Cox's Road in 1814, later to become the Great Western Highway. I wonder what the Aboriginal onlookers thought, seeing the suffering of white men, a race which inflicted such cruelty on them. [8661]
